Coleman Northstar Lantern

In 1901, a young man begins to manufacture the Coleman Northstar lantern, and by the end of the year he had purchased a patent for the efficient lamp and started to sell the product throughout the U.S. The Coleman Northstar lantern proved so popular, that by 1915 the U.S declared the product as an essential item for World War 1, and over 70,000 lanterns were distributed across the nation.
 
The Coleman Northstar lantern will run on either Coleman liquid fuel or unleaded petrol, the first product of its kind to do so. As a result, this makes the product economical to run for long periods of time, up to 14 hours on a single 0.95 litre tank.

The Coleman Northstar lantern is a very easy to use product, simply fill your tank with either the Coleman liquid fuel or unleaded fuel, and start to pump the generator to build up pressure in the fuel tank. Once this is done, you twist the generator handle to hold the pressure inside the tank.

The Northstar lantern has a piezo ignition built in. This is an electronic ignition, therefore doing away with the need for matches.If you start to release the flow of petrol and push the piezo ignition, the lantern should light up. Steadily releasing more of the petrol into the lantern will make the lantern burn brighter.

The consumable items you can replace on the lantern are the generator pipe and the mantle. The mantle will normally last around two years, depending on usage and is a little tricky to fit, but most reputable sellers of this item will usually do this free of charge. The generator pipe will only need to be changed depending on how heavy the usage is, usually around 5 to 10 years. Coleman do say, however, that the unleaded petrol method does block up the generator pipe much faster than using just the Coleman liquid fuel.

The lantern is fully adjustable, giving up to 200 watts of brilliant light, and with its anti-flare system is extremely safe. The new pump has a pressure indicator, and eliminates the opening and closing of the pump, as well as counting pump-strokes. The fuel tank is refillable, making the lantern environmentally friendly, as there are no fuel cartridges to dispose of. All this, coupled with easy-to-grip controls and a skid-resistant base, makes for a simple, convenient and, above all, safe lantern.
